Les in seat of power after marathon achievement

The Bath Chronicle has run an article about Space member Les Marchant, who has been ranked seventh best in the UK in a rowing competition. Here's an extract:

A Bath man has been ranked seventh best in the country after competing in a marathon - even though his feet didn't even touch the ground.

Les Marchant, who works for Bath Job Centre, took part in the Concept 2 Global Marathon at the end of last month, which saw him rowing a gruelling 26.1 miles in just over three hours. ...

Mr Marchant responded to an email from the firm inviting customers to take part in a worldwide effort on its machines.

"I mentioned it to a few people in the gym and then the pressure was on to do it," he said. ...

"I finished seventh in the country and 32nd in the world for my age group."

It took the 53-year-old exactly three hours and eight minutes to complete the marathon. ...

Mr Marchant trains at Space Health & Fitness at Hayesfield Park, Bear Flat, with the gym's staff on hand to monitor his progress and authenticate his time. ...
